Empty handed you go into spaces

searching for  souls like collisions

of grey shapes stumbling down

into staircases heading for exit.

Pass this way. They are the reflections

of glassy things you see staring back

at you- images of the sun battling

against the rogue winds. Then peace

will come knocking at your door

peddling its sepia stained photographs

and pushing nostalgic emotions

tethered to your distant past.

You will not allow it. You will pretend

as if you’ve come a long way from there

and someone has to understand

that they need to break down

the concept of the old life you are not

now. Though they won’t applaud changes

and alone you have to float like a river

where myriad of dreams are waiting

to become realities and rarities.

You have to be lighter than feather.

You should embrace memories

like the colors of the rainbow.

Unmindful and undeterred by fear

gripping like empty boxes and chains

to the blank spaces waiting to be filled

with courage to break through walls.

What will it take you to remember?

The light and shade of beauty

in minutes and seconds within hours

in a day or a year. A lifetime

about colours mixed in a palette

about anecdote in a story

about a scene in a play

about a line in a poem

or a montage in a song

I carry within me

waiting to be expressed

in time. Little by little

a masterpiece.

A balloon hollow as air

I float miles farther away

no one could catch me.

I’m not here. Drifting

past the roofs of cities

and a maze of streets.

No one could see me now.

Lingering among clouds,

playing with dreams,

breathing a reality

of existing to survive.

In a skin I lived in

may not reveal who

a being- hidden within.

A face. A soul waiting

to be exhaled

and found again.

Write. It is almost like

the plot explains why

we keep on repeating

the same mistakes again.

Stubborn writers only listen

to their own opinion

of what’s apt and what’s not.

Concealing the fact, stories

are about expectations

of what the world should be-

of how isolated and conflicted

the inner character must be.

It happens to be

a predictable climax

waiting to be exhaled.

A series of opening.

Waiting. Closing. Life.

It started when you came

out from your mother’s womb.

With a cry loud enough

to rouse the world

from its deep sleep.

And the breaking of dawn

opening the earth’s curtains

like little fingers of light

slipping into space, entering

by the window.

For the longest time,

you inhabit that space,

eager in the waiting

of opening your eyes

each morning to see

that the world changes

outside while taking it in.

Waiting for the signals,

the pulses and heartbeats.

Speeding along with days,

pacing with hurried footsteps

in that familiar cycle.

Only to find that beginnings

anticipate endings. A book

closing its chapters winding

down through changes until

reaching its climax. At last.

Ending with the earth’s curtains

closing like womb, too. With you.

Like clods of earth falling

down into that space, night

softly crying to its deep sleep.

Shutting off the light, leaving

by the door.

This pilgrim slowly falls

into longing.  Loneliness

hums along a prelude

to twilight.  The olden days

forgotten. Of distant past

revealed and was found-

in the lines of her song.

She sings of a sad refrain.

As if she knew the way,

retracing tracks to wounds

of a love lost.  A trip,

down the memory lane.

She sings

as if she knew this pilgrim.

Whose heart is keeping

a sad, hidden melody

left here at the station.

Unsung of someone else’s

story.  She sings

about broken promises.

About dreams fading

into the horizon.  About

memories slipping away.

Like trains not returning

this song’s sad ending.

Loneliness runs along

here at the station.

Tomorrow is another day-

down the memory lane.

And this pilgrim chose

to stay awhile, alone

past midnight.  Waiting,

as she begins  to sing

another sad song.

Waiting’s over,

the night journey ends.

I welcome.

Nature’s curtain call,

clothed divinely

in morning dew.

Grey-brown lichens,

the light streams

into silvery branches.

Gentle flutter of green

upon the tree bark.

A solitary moment.

When the leaves sway,

fascinating colors

left me enthralled.

Warm and fragrant,

your subtle caresses

my inner calm.

Cascading sunlight

into turquoise pond,

I will bathe.

Enter my sacred sanctum.

Embracing sunlight,

I catch you.

Sunlight dances

with the morning breeze

into gentle romance.

Amidst the canopy

hiding me away.

I am found.
