Flipping through a newspaper  is like a world

in a still shot of words. A night sky of falling stars

against the backdrop of inkblots and faded graphite.

Filling out the whiteness of pages parched with yesterday

scenes captured and distilled in silence.  Here, where

its blackness became a cure to this ennui.  A distraction.

A flotsam of unhappy events, of somebody’s tale.

The never-ending saga of tragedies and its epic struggle

to survive. Looking for signs, of parallelisms

which might ephemerally keep that connection.

While tomorrow is another news rolling off the press

harping that life will still stay relevant. Each day.

Starwars Saga

The year was 1977, when the episode IV: A New Hope blasted the wide screen signalling the digital age that has to begin.  Unfortunately, I was still a baby during those times.  But now that I am older (and nearing the 30’s), I came to appreciate this extra-ordinary story telling from George Lucas. No doubt, it is one of the great stories ever told for the last 50 years.  And having been an escapist fantasy film, I appreciate how the six-part saga came as strong and as real like a true human history.

Two other equally challenging sequels, "Empire Strikes Back" (which is still the best of all Starwars episode in the trilogy) and the Return of the Jedi are exploratory in nature to better explain circumstances around Luke Skywalker’s destiny as a Jedi.  And his quest to know his true identity have been intertwined with that of Princess Leia as in the end it was revealed that they are actually twins.  And their father is Anakin Skywalker, whose life and beginnings as a Jedi have been chronicled in the early three-part of the story.

Anakin Skywalker who later succumbed to the powers of the Darkside is reincarnated as Darth Vader as better explained in the Episode I to III (Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith).  Though these parts have been filmed 20 years later since, it has thoroughly explained the places, the history and the story thread that will lead to the better understanding of the Episodes IV to VI.

Obi Wan Kenobi and Yoda encompasses almost all of the episodes being part of the Jedi Council under Mace Windu whom Anakin Skywalker killed for protecting Supreme Chancellor Palpatine who will later become Darth Sidious and the Emperor of the Intergalactic Empire. Do you remember these well loved characters? Queen Amidala, Qui-Gon Jinn, Darth Maul, Shmi Skywalker, Jar Jar Binks, C-3PO, R2-D2, Jabba the Hutt, Count Dooku, Senator Organa, Jango Fett, Beru, Owen, Chewbacca, Hans Solo, Lando Calrissian, and most of all the Ewoks.

The beauty of the Starwars saga lies on how the technology filming has beautifully merged with great ensemble acting of the cast to create a life-like epic. A lot of emotions, struggles, dilemma and certainty of death has been effectively conveyed through memorable quotations and situations in the film.  Reality is quite a parallel when you sub-consciously try to internalize the message that good eventually will overcome the power of evil. And that fear comes when you don’t have the will to let go of things that is destined to fade or facing the certainty of loss and death.
